Red Wings, Labatt Blue combining to improve Clark Park
The Red Wings and Labatt Blue are teaming up to improve and spruce up the outdoor Clark Park hockey rink and locker room/rental skate area.
In conjunction with their “Hockeytown Cares” platform, the Red Wings and Labatt Blue will invest $15,000 and 300 volunteer hours to renovate Clark Park, which is located on Clark Street near I-75 in southwest Detroit.
“Our organization is honored to team up with Labatt Blue and engage in this volunteer project for our friends at the Clark Park Coalition,” said Chris Granger, Group President, Sports & Entertainment, Ilitch Holdings, Inc., in a statement. “The hockey rink at Clark Park is one of just a handful of public facilities in the city of Detroit. The Red Wings remain committed to supporting local rinks and growing the game of hockey in our great city.”
The project will be appreciated.
“It’s a big help,” said Clark Park Coalition President Anthony Benavides. “Starting early and getting the rink in order and the building in order. It really needs it. Great to work with the Red Wings and Labatt Blue.”
He also said that Clark Park Coalition will host a street hockey demonstration for kids at Clark Park on Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Larkin likes ‘Yzerman effect’
Dylan Larkin is looking forward to playing under new Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman.
"He's done a lot quietly," Larkin told TSN. "With the time he came in, it's a busy time with the draft and free agency. We haven't had much conversation, but in the conversations we've had, it seems like he's looking to make it a better environment, a more positive environment in our locker room, and I think that's what we need."
