Pietila leads Michigan Tech to GLI championship over U-M, 4-2

Logan Pietila had a hat trick – including the tying and winning goals – to lead host Michigan Tech to a 4-2 victory over Michigan and the championship of the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament at Little Caesars Arena Tuesday.
Goalie Matt Jurusik made 35 saves.
Pietila tied the game 2-2, 1:29 into the third period, then put the Huskies ahead for good with 4:20 left. Alex Broetzman added an empty-net goal with nine seconds left.
It was Michigan Tech’s 11th GLI title. The Huskies beat Michigan State 4-2 in the semifinal on Monday.
Nick Pastujov and Jake Becker scored for the Wolverines, and Strauss Mann stopped 27 shots.
Michigan beat Ferris State 4-1 in the other semifinal on Monday. Ferris State also lost earlier Tuesday to Michigan State, 5-2 in the third-place game.
Dennis Cesana had a goal and two assists, and Patrick Khodorenko had a goal and an assist for the Spartans. Jared Rosburg, Sam Saliba and Tommy Miller also scored for MSU while John Lethemon made 22 saves.
Nate Kallen had a goal and an assist and Jake Transit also scored for the Bulldogs. Roni Salmenkangas stopped 31 shots.
