For many years, Joe Gagnon, best known as the Appliance Doctor, was a fixture on Detroit flagship radio station WJR. His nationally syndicated show offered callers service and safety advice plus purchase do’s and don’ts on all household appliances. After a long run on WJR, Gagnon and his show spent several years on other local stations.
Now WJR has called him back. Starting October 12, the Appliance Doctor will be on the air from 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. Saturdays, taking calls at 800-859-0957.
What many listeners may not know is that Joe is a hockey player who for many years skated with the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association in charity fund-raising games with retired stars such as Ted Lindsay and Mickey Redmond.
He also has been a strong supporter of women and girls who play the world’s most exciting team sport. When Lindsay’s health began failing a year ago, Gagnon filled in for the Red Wing great to do the ceremonial honors at the Michigan Women’s Senior Hockey League (MWSHL.COM) tournament championship games, a role he was honored and thrilled to do.
So for the ladies who use sticks and blades on the ice as well as in the kitchen, give the Appliance Doctor a call this Saturday morning to welcome him back to WJR and ask his advice about appliance repairs, keeping your dishwasher performing better than new, safety alerts and which appliances are the most reliable.
