Hartland, Trenton advance to Div. 2 state HS championship game
The Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 title game on Saturday morning will feature defending state champion Hartland against longtime Division 2 power Trenton.
Hartland defeated Brother Rice 6-2 Thursday in one semifinal game, and Trenton beat Marquette 4-0 in the other semi Thursday at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth Township.
Six different players scored for Hartland – Benny Tervo, Grant Biggs, Joey Larson Adam Pietila, Gabe Anderson and Dakota Kott – and Brett Tome made 27 saves.
Tervo, Anderson and Kott (power play) scored within a span of 2:54 late in the first period to break a 1-1 tie.
D.J. Dixon and Nick Marone had a goal and an assist each for the Warriors.
Joey Cormier made 37 saves for Trenton in earning the shutout, and Gregory Obrycki, Nolan Sczcepaniak, Zachary Teichart and Alex Perrin scored for the Trojans.
The Division 2 state championship game is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. on Saturday at USA Hockey Arena.
Novi C.C., Rochester United to meet in Div. 1 semifinal
Stifling defense continues to be Catholic Central’s calling card, and the Shamrocks rode it into the Division 1 state semifinals with a 1-0 win over Salem Wednesday at Ann Arbor’s Ice Cube Arena.
Stephen Sleva had to make only 11 saves and Zach Borchardt scored the game’s only goal 2:03 into the second period.
Austin Goleniak made 34 saves for Salem.
The Shamrocks face Rochester United, which beat Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 4-3 Wednesday, at 5 p.m. Friday at Plymouth’s USA Hockey Arena for the right to advance to Saturday’s Division 1 state championship game at 6:05 p.m. The Division 3 state title contest is set for 2:05 p.m.
