Wings’ Jensen has goal, assist in USA’s 4-0 win over Denmark
Red Wings defenseman Nick Jensen scored a goal and had an assist as the United States defeated host Denmark 4-0 in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships on May 5 in Herning, Denmark.
It was Team USA’s second consecutive win and improved its record to 2-0-0-0 in the Group B standings.
Goalie Keith Kincaid made 20 saves in earning the shutout.
Jensen went 81 games during the regular season without scoring a goal for Detroit. But he tipped in a shot by Will Butcher (New Jersey Devils) to make it 4-0 with 5:49 left in the third period. Jensen was assisted on a goal by Cam Atkinson (Columbus Blue Jackets) in the second period that made the score 3-0.
Butcher and Chris Kreider (New York Rangers) also scored for the U.S. University of Michigan defenseman Quinn Hughes had an assist.
Team USA beat Canada 5-4 in a shootout in the tournament opener on May 4.
"[It was] night and day from today and yesterday," Atkinson said on the IIHF website. “I thought we kept it simple. We didn't force pucks. We were a lot crisper.”
He scored both shootout goals against Canada.
