'92 AAA HoneyBaked wins Tim Horton's Tournament
The ’92 AAA HoneyBaked team won the Prestigious 19th Annual Tim Horton’s International Invitational AAA Tournament, which was held Oct. 8-11 in Hamilton, Ontario, with six-straight wins.
The Hogs outscored their opponents 39-6 over the entire tournament and 22-1 in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final.
The team really came together when the quarterfinals started with a 9-0 win over West Seneca. On Canadian Thanksgiving Monday morning, the same Lambton Sting team who had beaten the Hogs in an earlier meeting this season, got swatted 8-1 in the semifinals.
On Monday afternoon, in the championship game, HoneyBaked defeated the Halton Hurricanes 5-0.
“I was really pleased with the way we defended our own end of the ice,” said head coach Mark Sandora. “We only gave up three goals in the final five games of the tournament against some quality teams. We really kept the pressure on offensively, particularly in the semifinal game against Lambton. It was really a complete team effort. I’m really proud of all the boys.”
Alex Wiese was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Defenseman. Bryan Rust received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
