'91 Belle Tire AAA wins London Tournament
The AAA ‘91 Detroit Belle team won the London Junior Knights Green and Gold AAA Invitational Tournament, which was held in mid October.
Belle Tire started its four-game round robin schedule with a 5-0 win over the Toronto Junior Canadiens as Jerry Murray and Ryan Nickels each scored twice, and Brad Smith added the other goal. Luke Hafner got the shutout in goal.
The team followed that with a 6-0 victory over the Mississauga Rebels as Matt Boley earned the shutout and Domenic Guriel and Jordan Miller scored two goals each. Mike Sisk and Murray netted the other goals.
Belle Tire then bested Elgin Middlesex 4-2 as Brad Smith scored twice. Miller and Nickels got the other goals.
The team then dropped a 5-2 decision to the Waterloo Wolves.
Belle Tire then deafed the Syracuse Stars 4-3 in the semifinals as James Poston broke a 3-3 tie in the third period. Miller, Hafner and Scott Loy got the other tallies. Miller also added an assist.
